Stone Temple Pilots’ album Core turns 25

I would be remiss not to mention that this is also the 25th anniversary of Stone Temple Pilots’ Core album. This album launched them into the mainstream. Critics who heard it accused them of being Pearl Jam ripoffs, though I simply don’t hear what they’re talking about. I guess millions of fans also agreed with me, considering they continued to buy their albums after Core.

It’s a pretty good album. Not as thoroughly great as Dirt, but Core is able to stand on its own and gives you a hint of things to come.

It was a top selling album for for a couple of weeks, thanks to the single “Plush.” I was introduced to them through the song “Sex Type Thing” which was played frequently on Headbangers Ball.

Anyway, here’s a nod to Core with an acoustic performance of “Plush” and a live performance of “Sex Type Thing.”

First, this acoustic version of “Plush” was performed on MTV’s Headbangers Ball back  in 1992.

Next is a live performance of “Sex Type Thing” in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1993.
