Before Devin Townsend became known as one of creators of some of metal’s heaviest, strangest and most personal music, he was the singer for guitar superhero Steve Vai’s band Vai.
It’s just been a little over 25 years since many of us were introduced to the kind of weird Canadian with an awesome voice, who honestly made the following song “Down Deep Into the Pain” interesting.
At the time, many of us thought he was just an awesome vocalist. Little did we know in just a couple of years, we’d learn he was an awesome and heavy guitar player and songwriter too.
“Deep Down in the Pain” is from Vai’s album Sex & Religion which was released July 27, 1993, by Relativity Records.
